Taiwan : Trafficker Sentenced to 18 Years for Selling 88 Victims into Forced Labor
Lee Zhenhao, a member of the Taiwanese Bamboo Union, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for orchestrating the trafficking of 88 Taiwanese nationals to a park in Cambodia. This decision was upheld by the local court in Taiwan following an appeal process.
Lee Zhenhao and his associates employed deceptive tactics, leveraging social media platforms to lure vulnerable individuals with promises of lucrative employment opportunities in Cambodian gambling and gaming customer service sectors. These enticements, including high salaries and assistance with debt relief, targeted young people grappling with unemployment or substantial financial burdens.
Subsequent investigations by authorities revealed a sinister reality behind these promises. Once in Cambodia, the victims were sold into forced labor, primarily engaged in telecommunications fraud. Those who resisted or failed to meet expectations were subjected to brutal treatment, including physical assault, electric shocks, and confinement in enclosed spaces. The perpetrators then demanded exorbitant ransoms for their release.
Lee Zhenhao's involvement in this heinous operation sheds light on the depths of human trafficking networks, highlighting the dire consequences faced by victims ensnared in such schemes. It is reported that Lee Jin-ho worked as an extra in the movie "Horn Head".
