The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has issued a strong condemnation of recent events at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), denouncing the treatment of medical staff and the removal of the hospital's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as unjust and a clear abuse of authority.
In a statement, the GMA declared:"The dismissal process was a blatant violation of due process and represents an abuse of power by the Honourable Minister of Health. The GMA stands firmly with our colleagues in the face of these injustices."
The association also criticized the recent public scrutiny of a patient death at the facility, which it described as a “media audit.” It warned that such actions compromise patient confidentiality, expose the hospital to legal liabilities, and risk swaying public opinion unfairly.
The GMA further revealed that the head of the Emergency Unit has received threats and has become a target of cyberbullying, putting his safety and mental health at risk.
"If such actions persist," the GMA cautioned, "they could demoralize dedicated healthcare workers and erode public trust in the health system."

The association has called for an unreserved apology from both the Minister of Health and the Member of Parliament for Tamale North, condemning what it termed as “unprovoked attacks” against the hospital's staff.
It also urged the hospital’s management to uphold due process in addressing the situation, ensure the protection of its personnel, and offer psychological support to those affected.
Reaffirming its commitment to addressing long-standing systemic issues in Ghana's healthcare sector, the GMA concluded by stating it is monitoring the situation closely and will take appropriate steps to protect its members.
