Kwame Bonsu, the midfielder from Asante Kotoko, has overcome adversity to proudly don the national colors, marking a remarkable comeback two years after his career seemed to be in ruins.

Affectionately known as Conte, Bonsu has rightfully earned a call-up to the senior national team, the Black Stars, for the conclusive 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya in Accra.

His extraordinary journey began on October 6, 2017, when he was sentenced to a two-year jail term in Sweden for an alleged assault on his partner in 2015. At the time, he was playing for Gefle IF, and his contract was subsequently terminated.

However, after spending 11 months behind bars, the 24-year-old Bonsu was released, providing a fresh start for the talented midfielder who had left Ghana in 2013. His initial destination was Sweden, where he played for various clubs such as Heart of Lions, FC Rosengard, Hällevik, and Mjällby AIF. A lucrative deal with Gefle followed, but his promising career was abruptly halted by the unfortunate incident.

Following his release, Bonsu returned to Ghana, determined to revive his career. He signed a three-year deal with Asante Kotoko. In 2019, his standout performances for Kotoko in the Total CAF Confederation Cup garnered attention, leading to his maiden call-up to the Ghana squad.

As he strives to secure a spot in Ghana's squad for the upcoming tournament in Egypt starting in June, Bonsu's journey serves as a testament to resilience and redemption in the face of adversity.
