Government evicts De-Eye Group from Osu Castle

Government has ousted the pro-NPP militia group that had camped and was training at the Christianbourg Castle (Osu Castle). Following Joy News’ documentary that the Osu Castle was being used to train over 400 young men and women to undertake special security tasks for the NPP, soldiers from the seat of government moved in Friday, March 8, 2019 to clear them. Officials from the Jubilee House and soldiers stormed the location and asked the De-Eye members to leave the premises.

The documentary has also raised questions about the government’s perceived will and commitment to fight political party vigilantism in the country. Some Ghanaians also believe the documentary makes Akufo-Addo complicit despite his public declaration or vow to fight the menace. Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament is demanding the immediate resignation of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo from office.

According to the opposition MPs, the impunity by which the militia is operating from a sensitive location like the Osu Castle, only points to approval from high profile persons within the government.
