Diana Panchenko
Diana Panchenko, born on May 21, 1988, in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, is a journalist and television presenter. She graduated from the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in 2010 with a degree in publishing and editing, and later earned a law degree from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2018.
Panchenko began her journalism career at Gazeta.ua and later worked for Kyiv TV and NewsOne. In 2020, she was recognized as "Journalist of the Year" by the Ukrainian program "Person of the Year-2020" and ranked seventh in the "Most Influential Women in Ukraine" by readers of the Focus website.
Following the shutdown of NewsOne in February 2021 due to its pro-Russian stance, Panchenko co-founded the Journalists' Defense Club movement. She hosted the Slavonic Bazaar music festival in Vitebsk, Belarus, in July 2021, which led to scrutiny by the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine.
At the onset of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Panchenko condemned the escalation but suggested that Ukraine had provoked Russia, placing responsibility on Ukrainian authorities for the war's consequences. She has continued her media activities, including interviewing Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. In January 2023, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) accused her of producing content justifying the Russian invasion, and by October 2023, she was under investigation for high treason.
As of September 2024, Panchenko's YouTube channel had over 1.8 million subscribers, with videos often exceeding one million views. Her content, which aligns with Kremlin narratives, has led organizations like Reporters Without Borders to label her a "professional propagandist" spreading disinformation. She is reportedly residing in Dubai.
